Ming Chuan University Guidelines for Flexible Evaluation Standard Adjustments for Students with Disabilities

1.These guidelines were established in accordance with Article 19 of the Special Education Act and Article 8 of Ministry of Education Guidelines for Colleges and Universities in Counseling Students with Disabilities.

2.Purpose: Provide adaptive evaluation possibilities for students with disabilities while studying at this university (MCU). Considering disabled students’ learning situations, individual differences and special needs, faculty members may flexibly adjust evaluation methods in accordance with the learning content on the foundation of providing equal opportunity for assisting disabled students to complete their studies.

3.Implementation basis: Based on the flexible evaluation requirement listed in the Individual Support Plans (ISP) drafted by the Disabilities Resource Room, each case will sent for president’s approval for further assistance in evaluation matters.

4.Students with disabilities may apply for evaluation adjustments in accordance with their Individual Support Plans (ISP).

5.Faculty may be carry out evaluation adjustments by altering the evaluation methods in regular classes, midterm exams, final exams or for the overall semester grade to provide adaptive evaluation time, space and method, such as: use assignments, actual practice or oral examination to replace written tests; adjust grading percentage; reduce scope of examination; or other adaptive evaluation methods proposed by the faculty.

6.The implementation of examination service

(1)Examination venue: Independent examination room, special examination room, desk and chair adjustments.

(2)Examination time: Time extension, early entrance, take examination in parts.

(3)Examination question display: Braille, larger spacing, exam items presented electronically, text to speech.

(4)Examination question layout: enlarged question sheet, adjusted instruction wording, marked key words, exam paper color.

(5)Answering method: Answer with computer, answer orally (recording), assisted to fill out the answer card, enlarged answer sheet.

(6)Use of aids.

(7)Other alternative evaluations.

The abovementioned examination service should be applied for at the Disabilities Resource Room no later than two weeks prior to the examination date and student’s examination schedule must be attached.

7.Examination service application procedure:

(1)The Disabilities Resource Room will discuss the matter with respective faculty members to evaluate if student’s application meets their course requirements.

(2)The Disabilities Resource Room will inform the applicant of the examination service application result through a written notice.

8.Upon being passed at the MCU Special Education Promotion Committee, Academic Affairs Committee Meeting, and approved by the president, these procedures were implemented. Any revision must follow the same procedure.
