A counselor doesn't solve your problems for you. Rather, he or she helps you clarify issues so you can solve problems on your own. The goal of counseling is to make you more self-sufficient, not more dependent.
That depends on the nature of the problem. Some problems lend themselves to short-term counseling; others require a series of appointments. The length of counseling is decided by you and your counselor.

Service-Learning
What is Service-Learing Section?
Service-Learning is a means of accomplishing learning through the service process and thus gaining new competencies. Service-Learning is a method which combines learning and teaching. Students learn and grow via planning, implementing, and reflecting on their own service. There are four features of Service-Learning courses:
1. Supplementing academic courses to implement what is learnt.
2. Meeting the needs of community and recipients of service.
3. Learning to reflect.
4. Cultivating students’ awareness and conscience as citizens.
Service-Learning is to experience the spirit of service; we learn how to reflect via the process of learning how to provide service. In order to achieve development in students and to meet the community’s needs, this course requires guidance, service and reflection.
Ming Chuan University launched the “LOVE MCU” project (Learning Offering Virtue Enthusiasm Mind Catcher Ubiquity & Universe) in 2008 to promote student affairs under the theme of “service with love”, “love your life” and “love your classmates.” The project was also designed to cultivate a spirit of service and sense of social responsibility in our students, and thus implement MCU principles of “Honesty, Modesty, Respect, Fortitude” and achieve the educational philosophy of “Excellence, Professionalism and Internationalization.” Based on the ideology and spirit of this project, the Student Affairs Division introduced “Service-Learning” as a required course for first-year students from the 2008-9 academic year. The program is designed to help first-year students get to know the spirit of Service-Learning through recycling service, and to learn team spirit and problem-solving abilities by learning about global warming issues. It aims cultivate citizen awareness and virtue, and to inspire enthusiasm toward life and mankind.

University Social Responsibility
What is University Social Responsibility (USR)?
Simply put, USR means faculty members and students contributing their professional knowledge and creativity to the society. The purpose of USR is helping universities better understand the context of local development, provide creative solutions after understanding local problems, cultivate local talents, promote local identification and development, connect to the world, and bring positive influence of the university and society into full play.
First of all, USR focuses on specific issues such as local networking, talent cultivation, and international connections, which can deepen certain professional Service-Learning courses or general Service-Learning courses and activities. Through these, targeted problems may be improved through systematic and targeted plans that can continue to be implemented.
The university supports cross-disciplinary, cross-campus, and cross-university professional teams (including both university administration and academic units). Faculty members lead students to do community service, and cooperate with local industries and government officials, which contribute to make the society better.
USR includes multiple issues such as local care, industry connections and economic sustainability, environmental sustainability, health promotion and food safety, cultural sustainability and other issues.
